Toilet
If your toilet runs on, it’s not just irritating--it’s wasting water. Running toilets are usually caused by a leaky fill or flush valve. The flush valve might not be seating properly after a flush, or be worn with age. If that’s the case, water will always be trickling through the valve and into the bowl. There will never be enough water flowing through to flush the bowl, but the tricking sound will be annoying. Or it might be the fill valve is set too high, so the water in the tank is always spilling over into the overflow tube. Either way, they are small repairs that should be made as soon as possible to save money and spare your nerves. article by Mike Holmes.

Smoke detector

Spring forward, yes it's that time. Time to change your clocks and test your smoke alarms and CO detectors. You should test your smoke detectors and make sure they are operating properly if they are battery operated ones you should replace the batteries and the same for your CO detectors. Remember smoke detectors expired just like your gallon of milk smoke detectors are only good for 10 years and must be replaced. If you are not sure how old they are it should say on the bottom of the smoke detector. click here for video

Smoke and carbon monoxide detector batteries
Daylight Saving Time will end on the last possible day this year in the United States since November starts on a Monday. Daylight Saving Time ends at 2 a.m. on Sunday, November 7, 2010. At 2 a.m. on Sunday we will "fall back" one hour to 1 a.m., proving an extra hour of sleep but also creating the illusion of waking up an hour earlier than usual. Mornings will be lighter and evenings will be darker earlier as we return to Standard Time until March 13, 2011.

Smoke and carbon monoxide detector batteries
So today we turned our clocks "fall back" one hour. The beginning and end of daylight savings time is the perfect time to check your smoke and carbon monoxide detector batteries. In fact, I recommend you just install new batteries twice a year to be sure they are always working properly.
Even if your house has hard-wired smoke detectors you still need to replace the back-up batteries. Once you replace the battery be sure to test the smoke detector to be sure you’ve installed the battery properly.
